write/read speed of any new storage device

To verify write/read speed of a storage device, run below simple commands with different strip sizes (4k, 64k, 128k, 256k) ..etc


dd if=/dev/zero of=/home/test oflag=direct bs=64k count=10000


sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/null iflag=direct bs=4k count=100000

Example write:

[sp@harrypotter ~]$ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/home/sp/test oflag=direct bs=64k count=1000
[sudo] password for sp:
1000+0 records in
1000+0 records out
65536000 bytes (66 MB) copied, 1.6814 s, 39.0 MB/s
[sp@harrypotter ~]$
